Gas Safety Certificates — FAQs
How long does a gas safety check take?
Around 30–60 minutes for a typical property, depending on the number of appliances. You'll receive your certificate digitally shortly after the visit.
Is a gas safety certificate a legal requirement for homeowners?
No — for owner-occupied homes it's optional but recommended, especially when buying or after building work. For rental properties it is a legal requirement, renewed every 12 months.
What happens if an appliance fails the check?
The engineer will explain the defect, classify its severity and, where unsafe, make the appliance safe. We'll then quote for the remedial work so the certificate can be passed on re-inspection.
How long is a gas safety certificate valid?
Twelve months from the date of issue.
